Why Donate?

Since the Alaska Avalanche Information Center was founded in 2008, we continue to evolve to ensure we meet the needs of backcountry users throughout the state. To keep our progress moving forward as the demand for avalanche safety resources and education continues to increase in communities around the state, we need your support. The AAIC Annual Fund is critical in maintaining the administrative & operational support required for our Regional Avalanche Centers to thrive, and to ensure the AAIC remains actively engaged in avalanche safety throughout the state of Alaska.

Your Contribution Supports Several Important Initiatives:

  • Increase partnerships throughout the state to strengthen connections throughout our communities in support of our mission
  • Strengthen operations at each Regional Avalanche Center to best meet the needs of their unique communities
  • Encourage the implementation of a statewide avalanche program
  • Increase scholarship opportunities for avalanche safety education for all users

Our Annual Fund keeps dollars going towards services that are essential for each Regional Avalanche Center, and to ensure public access to resources and information which allow users to make informed decisions before traveling in the backcountry. We continue to see tremendous growth in participation in winter backcountry recreation which inspires every aspect of our work.

We Hit Some Major Milestones this Year!

  • We adopted the National Avalanche Forecast Platform on our website for both Valdez & Haines.
  • Backcountry Preparedness Program, with funding support from DPS & AK State Troopers, and in collaboration with Alaska Safe Riders, reached over 4600 participants last year.
  • Lutak Weather Station is completed and operational, thanks to support from the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation.
  • The AAIC hired our first Development Director to increase public outreach efforts throughout the state, while supporting the fundraising efforts at the Regional Avalanche Centers.
  • Provided free Level 1 Snow Machine courses, taught by Alaska Avalanche School, to 6 participants each in Valdez, Haines, & Paxon.

The Annual Fund is a big part of our success, so please consider giving generously this year. Together we can keep this momentum going and Live to Ride Another Day!
