General Observations

Transitonal Zone: 2800’/E-aspect/Fog to 2000′ then clear/Light N-wind/30F/HS 280cm. With the probe 145cm down felt what I would guess is the New Years interface. No significant layers in the top 100cm of snow in that spot at 2800′. Above treeline isolated pockets of wind effect, though no results on test slopes. The sun felt warm around mid-day. Freezing temperatures after the MLK day pineapple express produced a crust below treeline. Main goal at lower elevations was to avoid injury, where snow quality was challenging at best, almost like avy debris.

  • Above 2,500′ wind effect, packed powder, rime.
  • Below 2500′ 5-10cm of powder over MLK day melt-freeze crust.
  • Below 1500′ refrozen, rain runnel, chunder, post-hole.
