Alaska has a high rate of avalanche fatalities per capita. As backcountry recreation has increased, the number of avalanche accidents has also increased. The list below has been compiled from the American Avalanche Association, Colorado Avalanche Information Center, Alaska Outdoor Fatalities, and Snowy Torrents.
