The Alaska Avalanche Information Center here with a special report thanks to the Alaska Department of Public Safety and Country Legends 100.9.
The recent snow storm that dumped more than two feet of snow in Hatcher Pass proves winter is not over yet.
This storm increased avalanche danger to considerable with more mixed rain and snow predicted throughout this weekend.
Be aware that prior to this storm, forecasters observed surface hoar, near surface facets and crusts blanketing the landscape which means the new snow is not likely to bond well to these existing surfaces contributing to the avalanche problem.
The Valdez Snowmachine Club will host the annual Mountain Man Hill Climb races on Friday and Saturday in Thompson Pass.
Where ever you go, make sure you check the weather and snow forecasts before you head out. And always carry safety and survival equipment for that unexpected night out.
Until next season, stay safe out there and live to ride another day!
