Problem Details

Avoid steep wind loaded western slopes above tree line.

Beware what is above and avoid large paths below tree line.

Recent Avalanche Activity

Recent Weather

Last week we received 5 feet of snow above 1500 feet. Winds loaded western slopes and more recently southwestern slopes. Dry weather the last 3 days has promoted stability, however weaknesses may still exist above tree line.

Expect increasing precipitation, temperature, and wind overnight. Models suggest an inch of water in the next 24 hours and another ½ inch Monday. The freezing line should climb to our local peaks while east wind becomes strong. This will probably cause medium sized avalanches on western aspects above tree line. Avalanches are not yet expected to affect the highway, though large paths should be avoided.
