Announcements

A strong winter storm is currently impacting our area.  Valdez received 12″ of snow with .85 inches of snow water equivalent as of 11/8 at 8 am.  This new snow has fallen upon a thin,”weak” snowpack.  Additional snowfall accumulations along with rising temperatures will create hazardous avalanche conditions in the mountains on 11/9.

As the current storm departs winds are forecasted to switch from Southeast to North, and quickly ramp up, with speeds of 60 mph anticipated.  Strong winds will transport the new snow onto lee aspects(SE-W), which will further stress an already weak snowpack.  Tonight and tomorrow we may see our first natural avalanche cycle of the season.
