Weather
The last storm system initially brought strong east wind and a freezing line to our local peaks. After a brief sucker hole, precipitation continued while temperatures cooled. This eventually translated into a foot of heavy wet snow at sea level, 3 feet of new snow above 1000 feet, and twice as much on wind loaded western slopes.
Expect conditions to dry and cool through Friday. This will promote snow stability. However, we have accumulated significant new snow in the upper mountains. Backcountry users should heed caution around steep wind loaded slopes. Also, beware of tree wells and lack of base at lower elevations. Another warm wet system will probably increase the avalanche hazard Saturday.
